Precedents is an invitational exhibition curated by Jess Lyon (For Your Pleasure) and Steve Konidaris (Wry Studio) exploring the iterative and often unseen processes that underpin a ceramic practice – maquettes, drawing, photography, material testing, journal notes and ultimately, the outcomes.
Our weekend of showing and sharing aims to build a community of dialogue around how ceramic artists make.
Inspired by precedence as a prompt, I have foraged through my journals and studio shelves to hunt out trajectories in thought and material practice.
Highlights from this search are a selection of images, drawings and ceramic sculptures made in response to elemental experiences. From the subtle scent of petrichor to the horror of Black Summer, I have used clay and ceramic processes to call attention to events of the climate crisis and histories affecting the natural world.
Precedent artists are: Lisa Banh, Lauren Cameron, Steve Konidaris, Franky Frankland, Jess Lyons, Madeleine Thorton-Smith, Laura Veloff and Sam Ward at our evening gathering on Friday 24 October 6-8 pm.
Precedents is open Saturday 25 October and Sunday 26 October from 11-4 pm at School House Studios, 28 Victoria Street Coburg, Naarm.
