The title is inspired by first nations botanist Robin Walls Kimmerer as she describes her Potawatomi culture's approach to harvesting. 'Never take the first. Never take the last. Take only what you need. Take only that which is given', is a measure and a mnemonic to apply to all of our consumption and is how I approach the material and processes in art making.
